The list this month
Movement is versus the previous published list. Verified and emerging artists rank together. The score rewards recent momentum, not market size.
| Rank | Move | Artist | Nationality | Tier |

| 1 | 3 | William Kentridge | South Africa | Verified |
| 2 | 12 | Kate Gottgens | South Africa | Verified |
| 3 | ▼ 2 | Mikhael Subotzky | South Africa | Verified |

How it's built
A monthly momentum ranking, not a valuation.
Each artist is scored on change, not size: whether sales, exhibitions and new gallery listings are picking up against the artist's own earlier pace, how prices are moving in the currency they sold in (so exchange rates do not read as momentum), and how much newly listed work sells. Gallery asking prices themselves never enter the score. An artist is only compared against a period we actually have data for, and a missing signal is left out rather than counted as zero. Signals are percentile-ranked across the pool, so a verified blue-chip and an emerging artist with the same recent change land in the same place. A curator reviews each run before it is published. Revised 2026-10-01.
